2011 Artist in Residence Tony Vacca

Wilmington Montessori had the exciting opportunity to welcome Tony Vacca and his World Rhythms as this year’s artist in residence. Through the program, the students experienced West African culture - and its connection to American culture - through music, dance, percussion instruments and storytelling.

The program began on Tuesday, January 25 and ran through Friday, February 4, culminating in an evening concert with Tony Vacca for the WMS community and general public.

This residency consisted of classes with teaching assistants from the DIAE (Delaware Institute for the Arts in Education), facilitated by our own Kelly Rhodunda and the WMS teaching staff. Tony Vacca was on site at WMS on February 3 and 4 providing dynamic lessons and presentations to the students ending with the energizing performance on the night of February 4!

This program was sponsored by the WMS Diversity Advisory Committee with instructional support from the DIAE.

The program was made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
