Admission decisions at WMS are made throughout the academic year as spaces
are available. We recommend that families begin the admissions process as early
in the fall as possible before the year of planned enrollment. Once classrooms
are full, students will be placed on a waiting list and notified if a space becomes
available.
Step 1: Parent Visit
Prospective parents are invited and encouraged to tour the school and observe
classes. Please set up a date to tour the school by calling Theresa Conaty at
(302) 475-0555 or emailing theresa_conaty@wmsde.org.
To sign up for one of our Montessori Mondays or Wednesday Open
Houses, you may also RSVP to Theresa.
Step 2: Application
Interested families should submit an application
for their child along with a $50 non-refundable application fee. You will be
notified by mail once your application and fee have been received. Families
with children applying to Grades 1-6 will then receive a letter from WMS with a
Release of Information form and a teacher recommendation form. Parents will
need to give these forms to their child’s current school. The applicant’s
current school will send the recommendations, transcript and any standardized
testing directly to Wilmington Montessori School.
Step 3: Parent Interview/Student Visit
The Parent Interview and Student Visit will vary depending on the age of the
prospective student:
Applicants to the Infant, Toddler and Preschool Programs: Prospective parents
and students meet privately with the Admissions Officer and will also get a
chance to meet one of the Infant, Toddler or Preschool teachers for an informal
discussion of classroom procedures, expectations, and objectives.
Applicants to Kindergarten and Grade 1: Prospective students visit in
one of our Kindergarten/Grade 1 classrooms for a half-day (8:30 - 11:30 a.m.)
followed by a parent interview with the Elementary Learning Director. During
their visit, children will have a brief assessment with a staff member.
Applicants to Grade 2-6: Prospective students visit for a full school
day (8:15 a.m. - 3 p.m.) and are evaluated by the Elementary Learning Director.
Parents are scheduled for a parent interview with the Elementary Learning
Director. During their visit, children will have a brief assessment with a
staff member.
Step 5: Notification
The Admissions Committee will meet to review your child’s acceptance upon
completion of the application, visit, and submission of records. The
Admissions Officer will contact you regarding the Admission Committee’s
decision. Upon acceptance you will receive an enrollment packet
that includes the contract and other documents to complete prior to
admission. A student is formally enrolled when the Admissions Officer receives the signed contract and deposit.
