History
Little Red Schoolhouse

Over 40 years ago, a group of dedicated and passionate Delaware parents sat around a table and thoughtfully imagined an independent, non-sectarian school that would offer their children an exceptional educational experience. Beginning as Wilmington Montessori Association in 1963 with fourteen children in a storefront in downtown Wilmington and later moving to a little red school house in Arden...Wilmington Montessori School was born.

Today that vision is reflected in a school where more than 360 students share the hallways on a 25-acre campus and a spacious facility with over 30 classrooms including a well-stocked library, gymnasium, performance stage, music and arts rooms and outdoor playing fields. Most importantly, though, Wilmington Montessori School continues today with the tradition of academic excellence that our founding parents envisioned.

The vision of our founding parents shapes our decisions to this very day. In less than 50 years, Wilmington Montessori School has become one of the largest and most esteemed Montessori schools in the country. We provide our students with a safe and nurturing environment, empowering them with a lifelong love of learning combined with independent thinking skills.
